Famous Photographer
These photos were done in the style of Josef Hoflenher. He is an Austrian photographer who is well known for his black and white photographs. His most famous one is the "Jet Airliner." Eura and I went to Downtown Vancouver to take photos of the buildings. These two were the best of the series of photos taken.
Music
First off, I did not take these photos. My partner, Eura took them during spring break, at Shanghai. This project was done to interpret a song chosen by Eura, and I. We chose Sky's Still Blue by Andrew Belle. These photos literally portray the song. The song is about hope and how that no matter what struggles happen in life, things will get better.
Culture Project
This photo of my dad was inspired by the kitchen window’s light. I believe that this photo incorporates my family’s culture. My father loves to cook and the food he cooks, are mostly full of spicy flavour. He’s always thinking of great ways to add flavour to a dish. The dishes he makes, mainly comes from Singapore, which is where most of my family was born, with the exception of my brother. Him standing in the kitchen represents his huge passion for food.
Food is a huge part of culture and what we eat, represents who we are. Sure, we can be adventurous eaters, but in the end, we become accustomed to the food we normally eat. This goes for all cultural backgrounds.
Lastly, I took this with my phone so that's why it's grainy.

Reflection of the Portraits Above
I tried to make my portraits awesome by allowing my model to relax and just act as natural as possible. I gave simple instructions of how they should pose but it was very loose. My model for the black and white portraits has a very nice personality. I tried my best to capture that by taking shots of her smiling. My model for the environmental portraits has a playful personality. She would sometimes spontaneously burst into a pose and I tried my best to capture that. I looked at many examples of good portraits and that inspired me to try out some of the poses seen above. Lighting was an issue for the black and white portraits because i had to keep experimenting with them. Since I'm fairly new at photography, I had to figure out some of the settings for the camera. My advice would be to take as many photographs as possible because the best ones are unexpected.

20 Images of Good Portraits
What makes a good portrait? Well, the composition is very important because it draws one's attention. Appropriate lighting is needed to compliment the model's features. The next key thing is to not have a distracting background. One way you can achieve this is to have a shallow depth of field which makes a blurred background.
The subject's personality is captured by the photographer's ability to draw out the subject's true expressions. The model has to be relaxed so that the photo doesn't end up looking forced or stiff. Depending on the situation, candid moments can bring more life to the photo. The photographer can also take shots in between poses to get a more natural posture. And lastly, catchlights are very important for the eyes.
First off, pre-planning a photo shoot is necessary for an excellent photo. I'll try to make the portrait unique by first, looking at great portraits and having a sense of what I want to capture in my own photo. Based on that, I'll try to have my own original idea. Next, I will choose a good location and take the photo.
Lighting sets the overall mood of the photo. For example, low key lighting allows the viewer to focus on the object in view. It also invokes emotions.

Collage
My partner and I chose these photos because they show the beauty of sunsets and sunrises. There is a picture of a lighthouse in the center to make it stand out from the rest. We decided not to make it according to color but rather, to have to collage of something in common. The photos are excellent because of the quality and how it looks too. We also wanted to choose eye catching photos.
